Here’s a compilation of the Battle of Berlin I edited. I used stock historical footage and made a simple soundtrack.
I wanted to convey how brutal and desperate the combat was. The Germans fought for every block, building and room until the overwhelming Russian assault forced them back. One of the most notable weapons used during the street fighting was the point blank artillery. They literally tore the city apart, turning it into a crumbling inferno of dust and ash, ignoring all the civilians still there.
By April 28th, 1945, Battle Commandant General Weidling reported to the Führer that there was only enough ammunition left for two days’ fighting and that food was virtually unobtainable. The following evening his report was more desperate- no ammunition, no chance of outside aid, no hope left. Hitler then began to realize that the end had come, and spent much of the day composing his last will and political testament.
I’m adding the full video to my Instagram Tv and YouTube. Check it out if you want.
