Friday, December 13, 2019: Going shopping for a regular, thick rope can turn out to be a real challenge in Accra. Fortunately enough one of my colleagues is very familiar with these little informal shops that are popping up everywhere on the streets of Jamestown, and at one of these stores I met Kate. She didn’t cater a lot of different things, but among these very few items in her repertoire there was a sufficiently thick and long rope. It was obviously a used one. “I got it from someone from the Volta Region”, she revealed, but I didn’t care. Since Kate seemed to be the only vendor far and wide who could supply with such an item there was not too much choice. The rope will be put to use on the weekend when there will be a tug-of-war on the beach during our company’s Christmas excursion. I’m sure Kate couldn’t care less, but at least she gave us a Christmas discount and became my face number 2,303.
