Straw Hat Cafe // Ghibli Museum Calcifer frying up sizzling bacon and eggs in a cast iron pan Satsuki prepping a humble bento of shishamo and neon pink fish flakes Chihiro sobbing over plain salted rice balls I was reminded of these iconic scenes once again today at the Ghibli museum because of the special exhibition that celebrates food in Ghibli movies If you are a fan of Ghibli movies and a gourmand - you gotta check it out!
Whenever I go to the Ghibli museum, stopping by the Straw Hat Cafe is a must. Despite the long lines (get ready to wait at least an hour or two ), the seasonal dishes are delicious and whimsical. They usually have dishes that connect to the movies, and with the recent exhibit, they had dishes from Ponyo on the menu! So today, I decided to have an all-Ponyo meal I got the cup-noodle inspired ramen which also had ham and quails egg, and to drink, warm foamy milk with honey stirred in The ramen was presented almost identically to the movie, and I think the taste would have been as well! The shoyu ramen broth fell a bit flat in taste as it truly just tasted like packaged soup. I loved the presentation however; and the noodles had a nice chew that salvaged the dish, taste wise, for me. The milk was amazing, though, and I'll be putting honey in my milk from now on!
To eat a meal recreated exactly from Ponyo was such a fun and whimsical experience, even if the ramen didn't blow my mind. I was able to get lost in the story of the meal. Stop by the Ghibli museum, and take some time to wander and get lost
