This evening we turn our attention to this months Craft Gin Box which features Norwegian Vidda Torr Gin.
Inspired by the stunning outdoors of Norway the Oslo Distillery set out to make a gin that is a true reflection of their land.
Bold in fresh flavours this is somewhat of an unusual botanical profile and may not be suited to everyone’s taste.
If you have this gin at home and maybe were not sure we really do urge you to play around with different tonics and garnishes, try and find flavours that bring out those natural Norwegian landscape flavours.
The botanicals include Juniper, heather, yarrow, chamomile flower, bilberry, angelica root, meadowsweet, sorrel, calamus root, elderflowers, pine shoots.
Such a rich mix of earthy, floral and herbal flavours.
The scent of Vidda is so fresh and vibrant, it is like you are breathing in the Norwegian air, rich pine notes are very present.
To taste, we tried neat initially, the flavours are very balanced and there is a delicate sweetness. Earthy tones also present which leads to a crisp finish.
We wanted to play on the fresh herbal notes so garnished with lemon & rosemary and Franklin & Sons Indian tonic. It worked extremely well and enhanced the botanicals, it is worth a try!
We have really enjoyed reviewing Vidda Torr Gin, it’s a reminder to us of the diversity of flavours that can be used in gin and how all manner of things inspire people to create the most unusual flavour profiles. Cheers enthusiasts
