Muscle fibres produce their highest forces at slow speeds, so experiencing fatigue and going to failure means the high threshold motor units which control the largest number of highly responsive muscle fibres and have the greatest ability to grow (hypertrophy) experience high degrees of mechanical loading. It is this mechanical loading which causes the muscular adaptation of hypertrophy. Without going to failure and the associated slow movement speed whilst under high tension you will not be maximising your bodies ability to increase muscle size.
So don’t be a pussy, train to failure!
