Today is World Thyroid Day. So let’s talk about some important facts. No filters. No bullshit. Just honesty.
1) 20 millions Americans have some form of thyroid disease. Mostly hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, although there are other forms as well.
2) Women are 5-8 times more likely than men to have a thyroid problem.
3) 1 in 8 women will develop a thyroid disease during her lifetime.
Do not feel alone. Do not feel broken or damaged just because you are diagnosed with a disease. It’s probably one of the easiest chronic illnesses to control! One pill a day fixes the issue!
I have hypothyroidism. Which means my thyroid doesn’t like to work. ♀️ Some of the symptoms I have *hair breakage (luckily I have a ton of hair to cover up the breaks-but you can see the break on my right side when my hair is up)
*acne. Fucking acne. Nothing will fix it and if I forget a pill or my thyroid messes up more the acne gets worse. *peach fuzz everywhere. Including my face. I hate it, but it is a part of me and I’m not about to shave it so I guess I’ll deal with it. *extreme tiredness. Y’all know I love my naps. *heart flutters. Luckily those go away completely with my thyroid pill!
*infertility. It’s something I don’t like to talk about, but this is the ENTIRE reason I got diagnosed. Full hormone panel after 2 years of trying unsuccessfully to have a baby.
Hypothyroidism does not define me. It is not my excuse. Despite having this, I have been able to build muscle, lose fat, and become overall more aware of my body. I will continue to talk about the signs and symptoms because taking this one little pill every day has changed my life.
