New year, new followers. Allow us to (re)introduce ourselves! Each week, we'll be highlighting a different member of this crazy river cleanup crew.
It's only appropriate to start with the main man himself, Chad Pregracke! The Mississippi River was literally Chad's back yard while growing up near East Moline, IL. Between his childhood and first job as a commercial clam digger, it didn’t take long before realizing that he didn’t like what he saw - above or below the river - and decided to do something about it. At the age of 17, Chad started making calls to government agencies to notify them of the problem, assuming someone would take care of it. Year after year passed by and the problem only worsened. In 1997, Chad decided that if no one else was going to clean up the river, he would. At the age of 23, Chad founded Living Lands & Waters.
We're now thinking of starting a new reality show called, "Keeping up with Pregracke." Between working on the barge, recycling used and salvaged materials by incorporating them into a plethora of new projects, and spending time with his wife Tammy and pooches Travis & Porkchop, this guy is unstoppable! You're likely to find him with a cell phone in one hand and a bag of garbage in the other. Whenever he can get away from his rigorous work schedule, Chad enjoys fishing, skateboarding, snowboarding, coming up with crazy ideas and live music! #keepitclean
