FRIDA KAHLO (© Frida Kahlo Corporation / Retropeepers)
FRIDA KAHLO DE RIVERA (1907-1954) was a Mexican artist who painted many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artefacts of Mexico. She employed a naïve folk-art style to explore questions of identity, post-colonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society. Frida is celebrated in around the world for her depiction of the female experience and form as well as her love of nature.
Most of my commissions will never see the light of day as they are private, but I’m happy to share a slightly unusual one. My friends at retropeepers have produced a limited edition of replica glasses worn by Frida to coincide with the popular V&A exhibition ‘Frida Kahlo - Making Her Self Up' earlier this year. The glasses are no longer available at the V&A, but if you want to snatch a pair before they’re gone, head over to retropeepers.com/products/fridakahlo-sunglassesgold
