Our director, Lesley Mazzotta, is leading our Women’s Global Learning Experience in Morocco! Here is a message from overseas:
Marrakech, the red city, is magical! We are staying in the Médina, the walled section that’s over 1000 years old. Gorgeous and homey accommodations at Riad Moulay make us feel like a happy family on vacation. Day three was all about girl empowerment! A morning trip to Project Soar, a nonprofit working with almost 500 girls in 21 Moroccan sites to help them know their value, voices, bodies, rights and path. We discussed many opportunities for One World Girl to work with them, so I can’t wait to see what unfolds! Insha’Allah. Then, an intercultural conversation with four bright and beautiful local ladies over tea and sweets. Trust and honesty were quickly shared on topics including inner and outer beauty, unhealthy societal messages for women, the meaning of the hijab, gender equality, sexual identity and how to help every woman and girl dream big. Plus more delicious food. And lots of walking around. And did I mention the shopping? Just an initial quick Souk trip to check out the sights, sounds, smells and many beautiful options of items we should bring home to remember this incredible journey.
