My editor messaged me reminding me of my article submission for the Art theme for February for my monthly travel column in Going Places #magazine, #LangyawTravel. And I remembered and scrambled to write and photograph with a very tight deadline. I was in Cebu then, staying home for a second month. At first, I didn't know what to write about Art in #Cebu. While searching online, I saw a photo about #streetart. Why not? Although I don't know any local street artists and have just an inkling on where to see these, I did some research. That Saturday, I went around the city, looking, walking, despite the heat, from morning till afternoon, exploring the backstreets and main roads. And this opened my eyes to the rich and thriving street art/#graffiti scene in my city.
My interest was piqued. I wrote, edited and submitted my article. And for the next few weeks, I was scouring backalleys and abandoned structures. When commuting, I'm always checking both sides of the road for traces of street art. And I wasn't disappointed. There were masterpieces. There were scribbles. There were sprays of color and faded ones. Older work replaced with new ones. The ephemerality adds to the excitement.
The more I explored, the more I came to appreciate the interesting works of @soikavomtrofficial which is always an aha moment. When I saw the wall along Echavez St., I was introduced to the oeuvre of @eliaskidlat and @wyndelleremonde. I admired @bartbombs style. And so many other local artists. And this was the reason that I opened this account. And the reason that I have been interested with this genre.
