Cultural intelligence is so important. Over the past few years I’ve shared with my friends what it’s like to be raised by a strict Punjabi family in a western world and also what it’s like to break the norm or what being an indian girl is in their eyes. I lived away from home for my degree and never lived back at home. I moved to NYC, I modeled, I performed as a singer songwriter and travelled the world alone which is seen as a big NO NO in my culture. I dated outside my race and even shared that with my father recently and watched him evolve and grow which is the most beautiful thing. It’s something that I NEVER thought was possible - but I am proud of him. My friends understand my culture and see how I balance respect for it with the simple facts that at the end of the day we are all human and LOVE is the thing that far surpasses all culture and religion. Having respect and understanding for all religions and culture is important even though we might not agree with all the rules... but being a good human being full of love and compassion is more important than anything else. Agree?
