On the "day of preparation" for the Passover, as the Passover lambs were being offered in the Temple, Jesus was nailed to a cross and crucified. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
His first recorded words, as a child, were “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” (Luke 2:49).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
His last words, as He hung on the cross, were, "It is finished” or “tetelestai” (Greek) which means “to fulfill.” ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” (John 19:28-30)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The cry, “tetelestai”, it is finished,” was not the gasp of a worn-out life, but the deliberate utterance of a clear consciousness that His work was finished, and all God’s purpose accomplished, that all had now been done that could be done to make God known to men, and to identify Him with men. (M. Dods) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.” (John 17:4)
Every sin has been paid for, every evil deed judged, and the full and total price of our redemption purchased at the cross.
That is the power of the blood of Jesus.
That is the glory of the Son of God.
The marvel of heaven and earth, of time and eternity, is the atoning death of Jesus Christ. This is the mystery that brings more glory to God than all (Author Unknown). ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
