I came, explored, and discovered my Barbadian roots. I danced around the island with a feather crown on my head and made new friends✨ I left sparkle, some feathers and stars everywhere I went because if you don’t #sharethesparkle what really is the point?
On this Remembrance Sunday we will scatter the last of nan’s ashes before taking to the skies and heading home. I cannot wait to squeeze my mini sparklers and tell them all I’ve learnt about their ancestors as well as the new generation of Barbadian cousins we never knew we had✨ With my mum, sister and the spirit of Nan I stood on our little patch of land at Orange Hill and wondered what our ancestors went through for the land to become theirs and once I got the full power of that I was struck by the realisation of our responsibility to them and to future generations to not just leave it to ruin✨It’s a tough one to shake off and I just know that I’m going to be really annoying to Mr Sparkle returning to declare ‘we must build a house’, exactly as my sister did when she returned from here 6 years ago! .
Anyway before I fly home here is a little wisdom from the island ‘when yuh en’ got horse, ride cow’, meaning make use of all resources you got available!✨ .
