“Hard face plant for Cy “
I give this kid some credit, not once did he complain. “My feet hurt”, “my toes are cold”, “I don’t want to do this anymore”, “I’m hungry”, “I need to go to the bathroom”, “Can we take a break”..... nothing, he didn’t complain once.
Problem is, he just wants to “snowboard “ instead of learning the basics first. We spent the morning on the bunny hill. And he was doing good, so we agreed to do a full run after lunch. Instead of practicing what we did on the bunny hill, he was all over the place and he had a hard time.
I am in the process of trying to teach Cyrus how to work hard. How you need to spend time learning the basic fundamentals and then to continue to work hard as you get better at whatever you are doing. Throwing a baseball, shooting a basketball, hitting a golf ball, kicking a soccer ball, and skateboarding all require countless hours of practice to get really good. I think that Cyrus is very athletic and things come easy for him.
But if he find something not easy and it requires him to work at it, he tends to quit or lose interest. I am very aware at how I build and reinforce this beneficial life skill in him. I really want him to develop an incredible hard work ethic. If I can do that this kid will be successful in whatever he wants to do in life.
