A dear friend prefers to call her life “full” rather than “busy,” and today, I hold her words close. There is much to be done, but isn’t it all for what I want most? To travel, to inspire others to do so, to create experiences that change lives and memories that last a lifetime?
In the midst of the details and planning for a group of very special women to visit Greece next year, I am reminded of my own all-too-brief visit. The ancient temples, rugged coastlines, turquoise waters, stunning sunsets. I remember exploring on my own, and for the first time, experienced a bit of loneliness while traveling solo. People were friendly, but also preoccupied - you see, the banks had closed the day I landed in Athens, and Greeks had much on their minds at the moment. I chose to accept loneliness, and didn’t run away. Rather, I spent time along the sea, and let the timelessness and beauty wash over me. Out of those feelings of being alone, a sense of being “misplaced,” came a renewed appreciation for solitude, and I left Greece feeling replenished. And now, I have the chance to introduce others to this very special place - indeed, my life is full.
