From the bottom of my heart... I just want to say thank you! All of you!!! For your kindness, for thanking me, and other veterans for our service!
It’s bitter sweet because my uncle and his fellow brothers who served in Vietnam didn’t get that same warm welcome that I, and other Afghan/Iraq war veterans got. And he volunteered for that shit! What kinda kid volunteers to go to war knowing that the probability of getting killed as a teenager was very, very, very high!!! Talk about selfless service-WOW!
There is no doubt, as harsh, and as costly that war in Iraq and Afghanistan was, it pales in comparison to what those young men went through in Vietnam. It was a far more bloody, and a far more costly war.
I’ve always felt that it was unfair when I came back, that I was showered with “thank you’s”, and all sorts of warm kindness. My uncle hid his service when he came back, because he feared for his own life back in US soil. Let that sink in.
Anyhow, thank you! It means a lot to us! But it means so much more for those Vietnam war veterans who were robbed of that honor. Despite all that, they are still proud, and they are the real heroes.
Thank you for your service, Uncle!
