We wrote to Keith Brymer Jones and emailed him photographs of our #TakeOnePicture exhibition.
Keith wrote back to our pupils with some very encouraging words about their creativity!
Keith Brymer Jones is an ex-pupil of #FrithManor School and accomplished potter and TV presenter. He is also a patron of the National Society for Education in Art and Design
A message to the Frith Manor Community from Keith Brymer Jones- April 2019 “The work looks amazing!! It never ceases to amaze me what you can draw (pardon the pun) out of children when setting then a creative task. Also the variants you get on a particular project.
Well, you can honestly say to your pupils, they are exercising an important, in my opinion, the most important part of their brain. The part that stimulates and encourages creativity and imagination, and let’s face it we could do with a bit of that!
It really is stunning work.”
Keith Brymer Jones is a British potter and ceramic designer. In 2015, he debuted as an expert judge alongside on BBC2’s The Great Pottery Throw Down and more recently as presenter of BBC2’s The Victorian House.
At the age of 11 Keith made his first pottery object - an owl. It was then that he knew he wanted to be a potter.
After his apprenticeship, Keith started out hand-making ceramics for retailers. As a child Keith suffered from dyslexia. He describes working with clay, shape and form as a natural affinity, as a result of his condition. “The first thing I ever made was a pottery owl, when I was 11 years old. The process of pottery gave me a sort of sense of escapism. It was then that I knew I wanted to be a potter”.
