One of my defining personal traits is that I have a LOT of hobbies, and sometimes I get a bit of crap for it. I never really settle on one thing - I find myself constantly jumping from one obsession to the next. Early last year it was firearms, then it was vinyl, and now it’s sneakers. For a second I loved buying and selling stereos and then I had a phase where I spent way too much time learning to detail our cars. People sometimes assume it’s because I love to show off, or perhaps I’m just a hoarder. In reality, I feel like the crazy passions I develop come from an underlying desire to learn as much about the world as I can. Each one of them is based around developing a skill, whether that be digging through record crates for something unique, building an AR15, or absorbing all the knowledge I can on what makes a sneaker “hype.” To me, adding knowledge and skills to my life’s toolbox is the real hobby. I feel as though pursuing one’s hobbies is of paramount importance, and everyone should be willing to invest their time and money into whatever their passions are when they find them. Provided you’re taking care of your responsibilities and saving for your future, there’s no reason you shouldn’t dive head first into any activity that captivates you. So while I may be obsessed with sneakers right now, who knows what the next 6 months may bring... Now I want to turn the question on you - what activities do YOU enjoy most? What is YOUR obsession?
