Generally speaking, ginger has AMAZING properties associated with it. Not only is it a fantastic anti-inflammatory agent, but it’s a very useful digestive aid. You’ll notice many authentic Asian restaurants serve ginger tea as a dessert for this reason - to help digest the meal. For my pregnant mama’s out there, ginger helps relieve nausea. I find many of my clients begin incorporating anti-inflammatory foods and digestive aids and find huge benefit when done consistently. Not all people respond in the same way to different foods and food patterns. Some people absorb certain nutrients better than others, and some people lose weight on particular ‘diets’ while others don’t lose weight at all. This is influenced by an individual’s genetic make-up; the variations in DNA (genes) that make you unique. Personalised nutrition recommendations by health professionals, which take these differences into account, will therefore become necessary to prevent and treat metabolic diseases (e.g. obesity and type II diabetes), in contrast to the current “one-size-fits all” recommendations.

The ability to provide a person dietary advice, specific to their genetic make-up, is also complicated by other factors. This includes how environmental factors modify genes (epigenetics), the composition of good and bad bacteria (microbiome) in your gut, and the levels of different metabolites in your blood. These factors together describe nutritional genomics, and all must be taken into consideration when identifying genetic sub-groups who would benefit from particular dietary recommendations.

The Mediterranean diet is a well-researched dietary pattern which has shown beneficial influences on health, including protective effects against metabolic diseases. 🥗🍷However, there is limited evidence on how specific genetic variations may influence an individual’s response to the Mediterranean diet on an epigenetic, gut bacteria and metabolic level. It is important to understand these factors to help with developing dietary interventions and guidelines which are tailored to responsive individuals.

🍎 Like they say, you are what you eat! What we put in our mouths everyday has a pronounced effect on our health. We get that right? 🍋 When Life Gives You Lemons 🍋

It’s often been said that disease and disorder cannot take root in a body that with a balanced pH.⠀

If gardening has taught me one thing, it’s that ALL living things depend on maintaining appropriate pH levels. ⠀

So the hubs and I make it a point to consume plenty of alkalizing foods daily…for example, lemon water. 🍋

There are many alkalizing foods, just to name a few….⠀

spinach ⠀
kale⠀
cucumber ⠀
celery⠀
avocado⠀
bell peppers⠀
broccoli ⠀

I usually throw a handful of spinach, kale or cucumber into my vegan smoothie each AM….I seriously don’t even know it’s there, other than the color, of course. 💚

But, that’s what colored drinking glasses are for. Right? ⠀

I usually work in some celery, avocado, bells and broccoli into a nutrient rich side salad. ⠀

Doesn’t get any easier than that, friends! 😉

A few benefits of an alkaline body: ⠀

aids in weight loss ⠀

An imbalanced diet with too many acidic foods will make your body acidic. ⠀

#Lipopolysaccharides (LPSs) are large molecules that function like skin cells for ‘gram-negative bacteria’ (GNBs), a type of #bacteria that live in our #gut. Like our skin cells, LPS continuously sloughs off the surface of these bacteria. There’s nothing wrong with #LPS so long as it stays where it’s supposed to: in the gut.

Do you know what keeps #food, digestive #enzymes, and other large molecules (like LPS) in your gut?

Intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) make up the deepest layer of the barrier between your gut and blood, and the tight junctions between these cells maintain selective #permeability – they work to make sure that nothing harmful enters your bloodstream. Throughout the layer of IECs are small groups of goblet cells that secret #mucin, a critical substance for protecting the most superficial component and the first line of defense in the gut: the mucus layer.

The outermost portion of the mucus layer is populated with a delicate balance of different strains of bacteria. When this is disrupted (by antibiotics, infections, or diet), your immune system becomes overactive, disrupting goblet cells’ ability to protect the gut and reducing the expression of the proteins in the tight junction. Together, this increases gut permeability, allowing things (like LPS) into the blood that would normally be contained within the gut.

As LPS enters the blood, the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNFα, IL-1β, and IL-6) increases and phagocytes enter adipose cells and force them to swell. LPS goes on to create chronic inflammation throughout the body and interfere with #insulin signaling. It is positively correlated with obesity, depression, schizophrenia and #autism. •
Docosahexaenoic Acid (#DHA) has been shown to significantly decrease LPS-stimulated TNFα, IL1β, and IL-6 production in dozens of basic and clinical studies.

Hey beautiful people lets put some facts over the table today, because I keep telling you vegetable is ‘highly processed’, but honestly that doesn’t sound very appealing.

So today I will instead tell you how canola oil is produced (I chose canola because its considered the "best" of vegetable oils) versus olive oil and you can make your own conclusions okay? Okay.
-
1. To begin with close to 90% of the seeds used are GMO;
2. Cut the canola seed into flakes;
3. High pressure press for extracting the oil;
4. Wash with SOLVENT (hexane) for 60 minutes to extract the remaining oil (cause the industry can’t miss a drop so why not adding some solvent to the mix since it will make them more money?);
5. Wash with CAUSTIC SODA for 20 minutes (caustic neutralization improves significantly the oil colour they said);
6. Refine to remove wax that is later used to make vegetable shortening (yuck!);
7. BLEACH it for getting even better color (the original color probably sucks huh?);
8. And since it smells like sh*t let’s HEAT it (remember heating causes oxidation and oxidized oils are toxic to us) to get rid of it’s awful odor;
9. Bottle it and sell it only to your own benefit and no one else’s.

1. Crush olives into a paste
2. Separate oil from water by pressing and centrifuging
3. Rest it for 4 months in stailess steal
4. Bottle it in dark glass to prevent from light exposure
