Compound vs. Isolation ♂️
Compound exercises are exercises that work more than 1 muscle (Bench, Squat, Deadlift, Rows, and Pull Ups). Compounds are where you can add the most muscle and build a solid foundation.
Isolation exercises are exercises that ONLY work a single muscle group (Bicep Curls, Tricep Extensions, and Calf Raises). Weight is normally lower and the movement is simpler. These exercises can help prevent injury, help with muscle imbalances, and help add muscle to certain groups.
BONUS! Compound exercises boost testosterone levels. This allows you to build more muscle mass over time!
If you really want to build an impressive physique then you will want to incorporate both of these movement types. My recommendation? Always hit 1 or 2 compounds at the beginning of your workout (when you have the most strength) and then switch to 2-4 isolation movements.
