HOW TO BUILD BIG LEGS BY @musclemonsters

The keys to building bigger legs are not much different than most other muscle groups.
_
1. Train your legs 2-3x per week and aim to perform 10-20 sets weekly (for quads and hamstrings).
_
2. Heavy compound lifts should be the meat of your workouts. Start off with heavy squats and Romanian Deadlifts and then move on to the smaller isolation lifts for more volume.
_
3. Progressive Overload: When it comes to building muscle—legs or otherwise—there is one thing for certain: it’s not going to happen unless you get progressively stronger. I don’t care how dialed in your nutrition is or how consistently you’re hitting the weight room, if you’re not stimulating growth through new stress, you’re not going to build muscle tissue.

4. Prioritize: if your goal is to build bigger legs, why are you training chest first or leaving your leg work for the end?

Here’s a quick lil’ ab circuit to add to the end of one of your workouts. If you don’t have an ab roller you can get them on amazon or you can use a barbell with plates on.
Do 30 seconds of each exercise and complete them back to back. Take a quick break and repeat the circuit 3 times.
I don’t specifically train abs very often because your core is engaged when you’re performing most exercises so they get worked anyway. But, every now and then I throw a circuit in at the end ✌🏽

Lunges with a long-term knee injury 💥
.
So as a personal trainer I know the amazing benefits of doing lunges and how it can benefit not only lower body strength, but also core stability and conditioning! Which is why for the last 9 years (since my knee injury) It has drove me mad that the one exercise I could never do, was weighted lunges! My knee just wouldn’t allow it! I managed to eventually progress onto smith machine lunges, but any other lunge would aggravate my knee to the point where I would suffer the next day (and during the workout). .
So I did what I do best! Did my research, ignored the doctors that told me not to train and trained there hell out of my legs with other exercises that didn’t irritate my knee. I spent years building the muscles around my knee to strengthen and stabilise it! Over the years with my workouts, diet and rehabilitation routine I have been able to do more and feel less pain!

Which is why it gives me great joy that after all these years, I am now able to do the one thing I thought I’d never be able to do! Weighted lunges! And without any knee pain!
.
I know this might not seem like a lot to some, but for someone who could hip thrust 180kg, but struggle to lunge with 20kg, it just shows consistency and dedication is definitely key! 👌🏽
