Reverse Pyramid Training [RPT]
- A training style where the first set is performed with the heaviest load generally with low reps then followed by a decrease in load usually with higher reps.

RPT relies on one super high intense set to overload the muscle fibers then followed by lighter loads to avoid taxing the CNS. Because the weight continuously decreases, you can accumulate volume and overload without worrying to much about fatiguing from set to set. With the high intensity set followed by continuous back off set you are able to achieve not only hypertrophy but also strength!

- Your most important set is your first heavy set

Personally I’ve been doing straight sets through my entire lifting career. Doing straight sets forced me to take super long breaks in order to hit the numbers called for for that training session. But recently, I’ve started implement reverse pyramid training because of the fact you can take shorter breaks. Going back to college, I’m going to have less time to spend in the gym so RPT was the perfect option. I think it’s probably most optimal to incorporate both of these into your training routine.

Great post by pheasqyues. We must determine whether we want to bulk maintain or cut during our lifting career. Personally I think novices should always bulk until they have made a considerable amount of muscle gains because if they cut to early they’ll just look small and frail with absolutely 0 mass.

Haven’t been able to train for a week and I gotta say it was hard. I train 6 times a week (with one rest day) and I’m doing this structured for over a year now. After this week it got me thinking that rest is needed, I feel more energized than ever. Rest is important and the hardest training there is, even if you don’t want it to.👊🏻🏔️
