My tribute to one Herr Nagell aka. Fenriz and the mid 90’s Norwegian scene.
The tattoo was done by @fifthson78 thanks for the excellent work once again man.
The inspiration can be found inside the CD booklet of the “Høstmørke”(1995) album that I bought the year it was released. It’s also the pendant you see Fenriz wearing on the cover. To this day still there’s pictures & videos of him wearing it.
Purposely left out the quote “Death is certain, life is not”. It’s not that I don’t like that but no quotes on my arms.
Although I’m a huge Darkthrone fan, got all their albums both on LP plus most on CD also, this image symbolizes my favorite era of Fenriz. The Moonfog years in the mid 90’s.
The albums he released with Isengard, Darkthrone, Storm, Dødheimsgard, Neptune Towers & Valhall are all classics.
Don’t get me wrong! I like all the records Fenriz did after the 90’s. Isengard is my favorite side project he has done, almost regard it as high as Darkthrone.
Always say “Høstmørke” is my favorite Isengard album but my go to album is the debut compilation “Vinterskugge”(1994). It’s so diverse with everything from Folk, Doom, Black, Viking Metal to some dark weird 70’s rock.
There isn’t anything I would change on that record!
“Vinterskugge” was actually the first Norwegian Black Metal CD that I ever laid my eyes on. A friend I had back then borrowed it from a friends boyfriend. This is 25 years ago so my memory is a bit fuzzy but remember clearly it being “Vinterskugge”.
Also got the inspiration for using Herr in front of all my names I use online from the “Nordavind”(1995) by Storm.
Anyway I’m so pleased with my tattoo tribute! Don’t know what I would choose to homage the last 19 years of his work?
Even if my next tattoo project will be something Bathory related. Nothing’s decided yet, like what era but there’s many possibilities.
Thank you again @fifthson78 & Fenriz for inspiration to this beautiful artwork.
