So made a daytrip back home to Brum last week and so many of u suggested I visit @tamatanga - so I did. Upon arrival, it was evident this was definitely a popular place as it was so busy but surprisingly the wait wasn’t bad at all. We decided to order a thali to share as there was way more than enough to feed us both and it gave us the chance to try a few dishes at same time. Excited!
First issue we had - the glasses and bottle of water came out. The glasses werent clean, with one of them having the biggest and most obvious lip stains, but this was quickly resolved before me even having to ask the waitress as she noticed it herself. Water came out warm and we had to ask for ice. Minor.
Whilst waiting for our food, another waitress came over and literally slapped down a bowl of chips saying “tamatanga chips!!!” And walked off so fast like she was the only one working there tonight - before we were able to tell her we didnt order them.
Assuming that this was a complimentary thing for all diners, we couldnt resist these delicious spicy chips, which were soooo good and boiling hot and fresh!
Our actual waitress came out and saw the chips, confused she came over to say “these arent on your bill, u are lucky” I told her straight away we hadnt ordered them and informed her that the other waitress disappeared before we could tell her. Our waitress went away. Shortly after, a THIRD waitress came over rudely saying that these chips werent on the bill and if we would like to “add them to the bill” - by this point we had eaten a few and I told her that it “wasnt our fault we had them put on our table and now u are asking to put them on our bill or take them away?”🤷🏽♀️ She rudely replied “so shall i add them on your bill or not?” 😳 HOW RUDE!!!! AND WHAT TERRIBLE SERVICE! She got my back up so much that we told her we arent paying for them so she took them away!🤦🏽♀️ After that, the experience was ruined and the food came out. However, it really isnt for the asian palette as just not flavoursome enough with spices. Even had to ask for salt.
However, the concept of this restaurant is good, in the sense it has something for everyone. Decor funky too!
