I always get really excited to start new things - new training cycle, new program. I just finished week 1 of the new strength/HIIT program and I am still riding that new program high. I’ve lost 3 pounds in the first week (despite the program approved “treat day” as I like to call it, on Saturday) and I feel stronger already (and my legs are SO sore from leg day yesterday…that’s always a good sign things are moving in the right direction).

But everyone can feel great one week in, right? It takes dedication to continue chasing you goals in week 2, 3, 8…etc. when things aren’t as fresh anymore. When the fitness gains aren’t as extreme or when the scale doesn’t budge for a week or two. For me, that’s when the accountability (and adding some variety!) becomes KEY - who has your back? Is there someone there cheering for you? A community helps keep you pushing forward when it’s easier to quit.

I've been stuck at a weight plateau since the end of May. Gaining and losing the same few pounds over and over. I finally broke through that for my lowest weight in years. Really focusing on keeping the momentum going.

This is good for this week. This is Week 1 of my first half marathon training and I’m feeling worried about lots of things but getting started can be the biggest hurdle - the mental challenge of starting, and seeing what this body is and is not capable of. Mental strength is as, if not more, important to do this. Was going to run my missed long run today but decided to just run my planned 8M easy instead. I have a really big week ahead of me, including my first big speed workout, and I think a reset was a good choice. Felt really good today and found my stride again for the first time in a couple runs!🏃‍♂️👍🏼

However, missing long workouts was probably the biggest downfall in my last training cycle. I know that training can’t always go exactly according to plan, but I have to prioritize my long workouts and do my best not to miss another one.

4 Miles: On the track at the Beach! I jogged from the Condo along the beach to the track area and then I got into a nice little groove finishing with a strong negative split! (Swipe for splits)Yesterday’s race was totally different as it was in Caguas which is a little mountain town with hills. Still humid but nowhere near as insanely humid as it is right now at 11 o clock in the morning at The Beach in San Juan! Humidity death trap!! But I was determined to run in these elements and I have no regrets! Happy Monday! What an amazing weekend it was. My inclination is to go crazier this week and do more, but I must resist and continue to just breathe. Chill. Patience is a virtue and my worst struggle. My mind and body like to be constantly on the move, but we have the ability to change our patterns. It’s crazy to think back on my life a year ago vs. today.

One year ago I got engaged to my now husband at a beautiful state park.

I was happy. But I wasn’t.
I was excited that I would be able to spend the rest of my life with my best friend and better half.

But I was tired. I had an hour commute (one way) to work. That’s two hours a day in the car plus 8 hours of work. I loved my littles but I was exhausted by the time I got home. I didn’t make time for myself and I was miserable. I was the queen of excuses.

Today I wake up at 4:45am because I WANT to. I wake up to spend the morning with Jesus and a cup of coffee. I wake up to have “me” time. I wake up to be a better wife, a better dog mom and a better person.
I love the person I am becoming because I fought to become her 💕

Long run Monday!!! Not my typical long run day, and to have them almost be back to back was tough, but, I will be gone all week getting ready for the Palisades Ultra Trail Race. So today was the day!
I broke this run up a little in mini workouts.
2 mile WU
2x5 2 min sprints with 3 min recovery.
Then ran a few miles, and HILLS when I ran into a friend🙌🏼
Then ran a few tempo miles
CD mile
10.5 miles for the day!
Now lots of prep and shopping and getting ready for a week of trail racing prep!!!

Absolutely Dangling after todays run!
All this weekend Ive been trying not to start a course of Flucloxacillin after a pretty sizeable horse fly left a fucking hole in my Leg on Thursday!
I have been feeling pretty rough for a couple of days, but fortunately the swelling, heat and redness has now gone, and I no long have tracking up my leg. 🙌🏻 I wanted to see if my immune system could handle the infection without the use of antibiotics.
It sounds daft, but it’s not as if I’m on operations at the moment and feeling rough over the weekend is small price to pay in the prevention of antibiotic resistant infections.
On a positive note I can now recognise how I feel when I have an infection and I guess this will help me recognise it if I see the symptoms in any future patients! 🤢 #alwayslearning
Anyway I was feeling pretty weak today to say the least... Not only that, my Strava has stopped doing that voice overlay thing so I had no idea of pace or distance.. I think I set off a bit quick at the start. (If anyone knows how to turn it back on, DM me!)
But again trying to remain positive, I’m learning to judge pace and rough distance without technology so I’m being forced to tap into different sources of motivation which is always a good thing.
Ah well there is plenty of time to get distance up and the times down before the Great North Run in September (see link in bio)
At the moment it’s just good to get out, clear the head, detox from the weekend and get some miles in my legs! 👍🏻 Got to #stayhumble You can’t be at your best all of the time! Just got to accept it and learn to say good! (Type good and JOCKO on YouTube @jockowillink ) And be grateful for any lessons that you can take away from the experience.

I’m normally bored on easier runs like this, but the time flew by this morning🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t know, I think I zoned out and got lost in my thoughts...AKA: planning out my crazy week in my head😕 It’s gonna be a busy one!
Also, the weather was amazing again! Being able to breathe and not sweating profusely really helps make a run more pleasant. I know it’ll be short lived, so I’ll enjoy it while I can.🤗😎

Haha. Omg. I have one of my first races in a month, my first one this year. I’ve been injured (fracture in a foot) and had/have problems with some nerves during winter/spring. My running is far from good!!🙈🙈😱😅😝 but hey, I decided to laugh about it, the race will be fun no matter what and I’m still gonna be able to run (I hope 🤞🏻) and PB:s can wait.
