Going from knitting hats to carving crochet hooks has been an interesting journey. It feels like the fibre arts and woodworking are on opposite ends of the creative spectrum - one being soft and squishy and cozy, while the other is gritty and hard and dirty. When I’m working on my crochet hooks, I get sawdust in my hair and blisters on my hands. I can’t whip up a hook from my bed while I watch Netflix, and if I make a mistake, well...let’s just say there’s no such thing as frogging when I get my whittle on a little too hard.
Weirdly enough though, the process of cutting and sanding and shaping and sanding and carving and sanding has become so relaxing for me. There are no distractions, only soothing concentration on a simple stick I’m slowly and carefully transforming into a functional tool. Happy Tuesday friends, I hope you’re having a creative day! 🌳
