New signature inlay means I’m getting close to completing something! Since this is on the bottom of a box, I set it flush with (or just a mm below) the surface.
I love the clean paring cuts of a sharp chisel...
The background is 5,000 year old bog oak and the signature is recycled 100 year old beech from an old #30 transitional 22” jointer plane. (Don’t worry, the bed casting had broken into two pieces, so no viable planes were destroyed in the recycling of this wood. But the beech is beautiful! And I’ll never feel badly about cutting up a dead plane for this wood.) I still need to shape the lid and inlay a cabochon into the top and fine tune a few other little things, but the end is in sight!
Can’t wait to get this box off to its new owner in England!
