When @s_longstreet comes over and acts as your personal Jonathan, giving you that fresh blow out and making sure you follow post-surgical shoulder precautions. 💁🏼‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Post-op day 4 and feeling pretty sore from where my surgeon had to scrape/cauterize the capsules but otherwise doing well. So far things that have improved: energy/brain fog, gingivitis (so wild- but it makes sense since it’s inflammation leaving the body), tension in my muscles, and I haven’t had a migraine since surgery. 🤞 It seems my gut is going to be more stubborn as I had a pelvic/urinary flare-up yesterday, but I’m tying to trust the process and be patient with my body. Hopefully I will get these stupid drains out tomorrow so then I can at least do a little walking!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Other feats: MINDSET SHIFTS. I was terrified to see my post-surgical boobs because they can be pretty deformed at first. After getting my implants I broke down and remember thinking, “did I make a mistake? Do they look okay? Should I have gone bigger?” This time I just tore off the band-aid (literally and figuratively) and thought, “hey- not bad!!” 😂 They’re certainly not perfect and they’ll take some time to fill in but they’re natural and they’re MINE. I’m sure the emotions will come, but as of now, I’m just thankful about the prospect of getting my health and range of motion back and being able to return to all my former hobbies without restrictions. 🧘🏻‍♀️🙌🏻

The Guru is inside.🐸 .

Everyday, we hear or read about healthcare issues. It's about the growing obesity problems in the world. It's about cancer continuing to wreak havoc. It's not all bad news though. Much of what is right under our noses are answers. The health and wellness industries today are never at a loss of words for what we can do to avoid health challenges. We see the exercise videos. We have tons of nutritious recipes at our fingertips. If we know what we need to do to get and stay healthy, why aren't the majority of people doing just that?
Our healthcare professionals can direct us, but they don't eat at our dinner tables. They can't stop us from hitting the drive through because we are short on time.

We are our own best advocates for a healthy life. If we want good health, we need to work for it. I know that there are those that have complicated health issues and may have difficulty without outside assistance. But, for those of us who are fully capable of making smarter choices and living a healthier lifestyle, why wouldn't we?

Knowledge is power. We must educate ourselves on what we don't know. And please, life is precious. We have more than enough tools and resources available to us. We aren't perfect but isn't quality of life important? Why wouldn't we want to live our best and healthiest life? You are your own guru.

I do. And I work towards it every day. My design for a lifetime. Babysteps my friends. ~ Mary Ann Marshak

Name one thing do you do to improve your quality of life. .

Took Copper out for his first trained rodeo. He was in and out of the woods like it was his job. Flushed one but never saw it, the woods are still so green but it’s nice to get out anyways. Hopefully in the morning we’ll have some luck!
Good thing we brought pheasant soup to the cabin or we’d be going hungry. 🐦

Lord, I needed a view like this today. After the day I had to see some light. Today wasn’t a total surprise but a day that has happened a few too many times. A patient hurled her words at me like she was throwing stones. Cursing and yelling, insisting I did not care about her health. If only she knew that I carry them with me. Too much. So much that her sorrow becomes mine. I wish she new that I could see her fear and sadness in her eyes and hear the desperation in her voice. That she isn’t the first to do this to me and be in so much pain that all there is to do is lash out. I wish she knew when I say I understand and that I want to help, that I mean it. That I use her story to better our systems and that she motivates me, even in her anger to do more and advocate. I wish she knew that I just want to reach out a hand and help her out of her pain and loneliness. I wish she knew that there is a better way to fight for your health. I wish she knew that her words hurt me but that almost immediately, I forgave her. Because living in constant suffering is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

I wish others knew this too... no matter who you are in healthcare, you have experienced this.
You may feel lost and alone in your suffering.
You may build up walls and lash out.
The weight may become too much.
You are loved
Your soul can be filled, your fears can be laid down.
Never feel less than. #liveloved #liveembraced #advocare #healthadvocate #lovewins #icarryyou #yourwordsmatter #youmatter #compassion #letyourlightshine #dontletyoursufferingdefineyou #youarecaredfor #notforgotten #youareloved

For years I accepted the way I felt was “normal.” Don’t all mom’s feel like 💩 ? It’s like, what we do. All the t-shirts tell us so! I thought that being exhausted all he time was part of Mom life. I thought all my aches and pains were just a part of getting older. I thought not sleeping well and waking up exhausted was just the way it was supposed to be. Everyone else I knew was exhausted. I accepted that I would be dealing with all of it from now on. Well, I am so glad I didn’t accept that for forever because now all of that has changed. So friends, just so you know...we often don’t realize how good we are actually supposed to feel until we make a change. •it’s not normal to feel bloated, nauseous and gassy all the time
•it’s not normal to not get a full night’s rest and wake up feeling refreshed
•it’s not normal to not have daily bowel movements or to have diarrhea regularly
•it’s not normal to have sugar and soda cravings daily
•it’s not normal to feel sick after eating meals •it’s not normal to have “skin issues”
•it’s not normal to have acid reflex on a regular basis
If these things have become “your norm” something is out of balance

REAL TALK * What diet do you follow? That's a common question I get asked. We are constantly bombarded with the latest trends in the media- paleo, gluten free, intermittent fasting, macro tracking and the list goes on..
In the wellness industry there is a perception that if you aren't drinking protein shakes, drinking matcha, eating organic foods or killing yourself in the gym, then you are not healthy ENOUGH! .
But you know there is no perfect version of being healthy- it doesn't exist! Each one of us has our own journey with our own set of obstacles to deal with. So healthy means something different for each of us.
.
As a busy mum of 2 teenage sons (younger one with ADHD and ASD) I like to keep things simple. I have no room for complications in my life- emotionally or physically!
I adopt a balanced approach to my physical and mental well-being. So I like to nourish my body with what makes me feel good. Real food that's uncomplicated! I engage in activities that will challenge me but at the same time enjoy doing.
.
Here are some truths:
1. I don't count calories or follow a restricted or elimination diet.
2. I love green smoothies, oat bowls and salads but I'm known to indulge in red wine, G & T, dark chocolate or even a slice of carrot cake particularly over the weekend.
3. I hate matcha but love coffee.
4. I'm not a fitness freak who spends hours in the gym- I do a combination of quick home workouts and gym classes that include weights, Piyo, spinning and dance classes. I don't always achieve this in a week but I'm flexible because I'm a mum and life happens!!
5. I practise self-care as best I can by spending time on myself but also being present with my loved ones. My favourite is just entertaining and sharing food with friends.
.
But I'm human and things don't always go to plan and that's fine with me!
This is my healthy journey and it works most of the time for ME! There is no one size fits all so you need to figure out what works for YOU!
I hope I can inspire you somehow with real food, quick workouts, lifestyle tips and real honest mum talk.

METABOLISM *
This is something that I knew abit about (e.g. It affects how you put on weight, I have a “fast metabolism” so struggle to put on weight) but I really didn’t know much about it so I’ve done just abit it research 🤓
*
Now the term Metabolism actually refers to all the chemical processes in the body...so breaking things down and synthesising stuff (I’m clearly not a scientist) *
So when we might say we have a fast or slow metabolism what we mean is that our ‘metabolic rate’ is either fast or slow...this is the amount of calories our body burns in a given amount of time.
*
Metabolic rate varies depending on gender, age, MUSCLE MASS, body size and activity level. But when we diet our body goes into starvation mode, meaning metabolic rate decreases and this is why it can become harder to lose fat, because the calories aren’t being burned...make sense? *
Obviously exercising burns more calories than when we’re sat still but being active also helps burn more when we are resting. Anndddd I made muscle mass in capitals because I just love the fact that the more muscle you have the higher your metabolic rate, another reason why weight lifting is so fab 🙌🏼
Booty gains=eat more food 👌🏼
*
Now I’m no expert so I apologise if there’s some bits that don’t make sense but the jist of it is to exercise, build muscle and don’t cut your food intake too low🙈💕

random fact:
i have kept an in-depth dream journal for many years. some of you already knew that.
🌙
dreamwork, for me, is an anchor of quality time used to analyze and unpack unconscious memories or past experiences while setting clear intentions for the future. it can take a lot of energy to get to the root of the unknown, but with the proper guidance, dreamwork can reveal so much beauty in one’s path. a lot of my dream analyses among loved ones have proven to be accurate and telling.
🌙
would you be interested in a workshop around dreamwork?
in the talks of something but of course, i would love your feedback. 🙏🏽

Mackenna was first treated at @uclamch when she was 4 months old. In the past five years, she has been hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit twice yearly. Mackenna has visited multiple children's hospitals to receive care for her condition, and the #ACEKidsAct would make it easier to coordinate Mackenna's care if she needed to see a pediatric specialist in another state.

During my time off work to heal, I felt my home become dull, dry and choppy with sadness. I didn’t want to encapsulate the energy in our new home environment. So instead, I began the healing process with several different healing modalities, one of them being house plants. After seeing the energy shift in our home, it eventually lead to creating our own garden to honor our loss, strength and love. (Link in bio)
