Do you drink enough water?

A few tips: to help get you in the habit, simply set an alarm to remind you to drink water. There are FREE apps such as I Hydrate and Water Logged that can help you get started and track how much you drink. Some people find it easier to drink more through a straw. Do we use absorb all the calories we eat? ❗️When we eat, only a portion of the calories consumed becomes available for our bodies to ‘burn’ for energy, or to store for later use.

❗️That’s because some of these calories will be lost along the way. For example, say you eat an Apple 🍎 with 90 calories worth of carbs, fat, and protein. During absorption in your intestinal tract, 60 calories get taken up into your body and 30 get excreted (this can occur through the excretion of fiber[1] or partially undigested foods[2]).

❗️Furthermore, the process for your body to digest, absorb, and metabolize these calories also takes energy (called the thermic effect of food which will vary depending on macronutrient composition).[3]
▫️
❗️So let’s say your body expends 30 calories for all this. That leaves your body with a net caloric intake of 60 calories to use.
▫️
A simple equation dictates available calories:
💥The number of calories you consume − calories excreted − the thermic effect of food = net calories available to your body for use.💥
