It’s that time again! I just finished the LAST PHASE of my workout regime yesterday! This is from the start of Phase 3 to the end of Phase 3! 74 days in & couldn’t be more proud of myself for sticking it out! I’ve got peak week coming up tomorrow to close out round 1 of these 80 DAYS! Can’t wait to see what’s in store this week! I’ve grown so much since I’ve started my health & fitness journey let alone within the last 74 days!

Fridays breakfast simple and easy healthy pancakes 🥞
All I do is mix
- around a 1/2 cup buckwheat flour
- Tbsp of rice flour
- Tsp of baking powder (helps with the fluffiness 😉)
- 2 tbsp of almond milk and coconut oil for the liquids
- 1 ripe banana (natural sweetener 🍌)
- 1 large egg (add more coconut oil and almond milk for vegans)
I topped mine with chopped up banana, @mayversfood protein peanut butter, a little maple syrup and hemp seeds.

BEYOND thankful for LEARNING how to foam roll especially my shoulders & back!

I used to be EXTREMELY tense in my shoulders and upper body. I figured this out over 2 years ago within a few times of being mentored in my dance training. It’s funny thinking back on it because she’d literally take my arms and wiggle them around to loosen them up. I’m pretty positive if I knew that foam rolling could help release any tension & knots back then I probably wouldn’t of been as tense. AND I only say “as tense” because I know that I was holding all my tension up their due to nerves and fear of really getting down with her in our lessons. Needless to say, after learning how to foam roll my shoulders and upper back I found a new love for the foam roller! LOL Have you ever tried it? Seriously, it’s that pain where you make all those funny faces during the process & afterwords you’re like BLESS 🙏🏼 HIGHLY recommend it for my dancers out there! As promised, the first exercise in the #turnout series to help strengthen the deep hip rotators (ie your turnout muscles) 💪 Although one of the most commonly prescribed exercises in both the dance and physio worlds, it’s often not done correctly 😤 The key is to recruit your deep rotators, rather than using your more superficial gluteus maximus 🍑muscle. Not sure how to do that? 🤔 Head over to my latest blog and have a quick read (🔗 in bio). I’ll wait...⏱️

Ok, now for the clamshell.
~
~
✅ Start on your side with your knees bent up to ~60 degrees. Make sure your core is engaged and your hips are stacked directly on top of each other. Keeping your feet together, slowly start to rotate your top hip in the socket to open your top knee as far as you can go without letting your pelvis move. Repeat until you start to feel your deep hip muscles fatigue (usually 15-20 reps).

❌ Don’t let the top hip roll back - that’s cheating! And make sure the gluteus maximus 🍑 and hip flexors stay relaxed the entire time. You can even put your hand on your hip to make sure they’re staying relaxed and you’re using the deeper rotator muscles.

~
🏆 Ready for a challenge? Try adding a resistance band around your thighs for extra tension. Or try holding the position at the top for 10 seconds without letting your gluts or hip flexors switch on.

My two favorite meals of Refeed Day are my breakfast; cooking up mixed veggies and adding half a 🥔 . THEN a side of fruit! The one I ❤️ the most though...My post workout meal! I’m using my chocolate vegan superfoods, ice ice baby, a lil H2O, 1tsp of PB, & a small 🍌 with a side of another fruit! It satisfies my life guys!

If this is what getting myself to the most healthiest version is all about then shoot imma pat myself on the back for INVESTING in MYSELF from the start! I save so much 💰 in the long run! Grocery visits are cheaper than buying prepackaged processed food. I don’t waste money going out to eat...I just don’t crave it. Not spending money on alcohol anymore, which in turn stopped that pansa from continuing to build itself...For real, think about it. A bottle of alcohol may be about $10 or if you go out to a bar, a shot of alcohol can cost yah pretty close to that depending on what it is. I also save in the long run on hospital visits because hey I’m taking care of myself inside and out. Getting health and fit includes the kitchen. What you put in your body does have side effects especially as you get older. I hope to stop those from ever happening to avoid hefty medical cost...Just some perspective on it because when you WANT to change your lifestyle, you must realize it’s going to take some investments in yourself...that includes money! Well hello after a long break of busy times (including a lot of dancing - lucky me)! 💙

Before going on to summer break many of you are performing on pointe shoes. But were you ever assessed if you really were ready to get on pointe..? I sure wasn't, but then again we have gained more knowledge over time!

The key factors for safe dancing on pointe shoes are strong lower legs and a strong core. Here are only some of the tests that should be done before dancers' are getting on pointe for the first time. The above tests are to measure

1. Calf Strength
2. Balance
3. Ankle Range of Motion

Interesting subject I think, and worth trying out even for those who already dance on pointe!

Transformation TIME!!!! 1st Pics: DAY 1 of this Journey, NOV 21st ‘17! I took my 1st before pics. I was not very 😊 taking these, but I knew I needed to for me...That’s a whole 173 days later...

2nd Pics: Day 1 of 80 Day Obsession...I was feeling WAY better about myself & my accomplishments! I was REALLY freakin’ excited to challenge my body in ways that it has never been challenged before. Obviously, lost a good amount of weight at that point. Wasn’t really focused on that tbh. I knew I wanted to feel better when I was DANCING & that’s it. That alone kept me going.

3rd & On Pics: Shield yah 👀 if you don’t wanna look...all purposes of sharing these are to hopefully inspire others out there to take that leap into the unknown & work on building you...building that SELF-LOVE we all need to FIND within OURSELVES. I had a KILLER BOOTAY WORKOUT YESTERDAY & was feeling it ontop of delayed onset muscle soreness...after getting down with some friends/fam, supporting the community, then doing some work for a few hrs my body was donezo...Knees, quads, butt, lol should have sat in an Epsom Salt bath now that I think about it...Woke up like 😍 okay Maraayy I see you. That hard-work pays off! I SWEAR! You get what YOU put in to your workout & life! If you give it your ALL & then SOME well you’ll get ALL & then SOME! This includes your nutrition! Yes, I’ve had a few slips nutrition wise...yes, I’ve woken up wanting to just lay in my 🛏️ not moving because I was “too sore”, but I got my 🍑 up & did the darn thing! I can’t just sit around doing nothing...it’s not me...I have to constantly be doing something that’s going to benefit myself in the present & the future. Get up EVERYDAY & DO something that’s going to get you CLOSER & CLOSER to your goals! That’s what I’m doing & I don’t ever look back regretting anything & everything that’s happened FOR ME. Embrace it! You got this! What is the Healthy Flexibility for Dancers?
Elvis: the body key will assist you in the development of a healthy flexibility for your dance career.

Supple muscles are important for flexibility, but a strong core that guides the movement of those muscles is equally important. If core muscles are not properly engaged, injury can result from hip and shoulder joints that become jammed and over stressed.  Healthy flexibility requires a core that controls movement so that joints remain loose and uninjured while allowing maximum range of motion. .

Meet Zhuoshi @josie_zx_ !! As a child, Zhuoshi loved to dance but did not know how to start her career in dancing. When she became a member of Columbia University ballroom dance @cmuballroom , her passion for dance sparked inside her. With constant practice with MasterStretch and Elvis, Zhuoshi works on developing her professional career. Today, she inspires to become a pro-dancer. Judy, a student at BodyCode System, had scoliosis in the past. Scoliosis is a condition that causes the spine to curve to the side. Judy knew she wanted to improve her posture and back. She took private classes where she learned how to use MasterStretch and Elvis from an instructor. She has also used a device called Pegasus: the versatile physical therapy equipment, is assist and guide her in correcting movements. After taking the BodyCode System classes, Judy noticed a significant improvement in her spine. Today, Judy feels more confident and attuned with her body.

Kaywon Art School students have been training in Korea.  @jiwon_choi1229, is soloist ballerina at the UBC and dedicated to teach future dancers of young students. Sehyun has over a decade of experience as competitive ballroom dancer. When she's not on the dance floor, she works a bioinformatician.

It’s #WomenCrushWednesday! Meet Judy Clare, she’s our student at J-Ralpha Studio. When Judy was young, she was diagnosed with scoliosis. After her first child, she realized her scoliosis has gotten worse when she felt body pain and stiffness. MasterStretch and Elvis helped her recover and provided immediate results.
