YOU [CANNOT] TARGET FAT LOSS.
I repeat, you cannot target fat loss.
“I want to get rid of my ‘belly pooch’”.
Have you every tried draining only one section of a pool?
Well, if you have, that shit failed epically.
So, let’s push that expectation out of our brains.
I hear it all the time about people wanting to lose fat in one specific area of their bodies. Want to know the trick? Create a safe, periodized and controlled caloric deficit for OVERALL fat loss.
Yes, we can and SHOULD consistently train in a way that helps build muscle and put muscles on our frames (resistance training/lift heavy shit), but doing ‘Sally Anne’s 60-Day Ab Blaster’ will not magically vanish your ‘belly pooch’ and nor will a dietary supplement or a green shake. Again, a safe, periodized and controlled caloric deficit will.
To caveat, there may be a reason why your body is ‘holding onto fat’ in certain areas. It’s not always ‘bad’.
First and foremost. Ladies, our badass bodies + hormones are capable of bearing a child, so our bodies ‘store fat’ in certain areas for that reason. And ya’ll again, fat isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Second, if you’re going through a high stress period of your life or constantly live in a stressed state with poor sleep, the body dives into survival mode and holds onto what it’s given and stores for survival.
Third and the most important, why are we always so quick to want to vanish certain parts of our bodies? There is such an overloaded focus on fat loss this and abs that.
Will loosing your ‘belly pooch’ make you a better mother?
Will loosing your ‘love handles’ make you a better friend?
Will having ‘smaller arms’ make you a better wife/husband?
Exactly. Be kind to your body. Instead of wishing away small parts of it, thank it for all the cool shit it does for your daily. That ‘belly pooch’ shouldn’t stop you from living your life. 🖤
