This is so heart breaking! Debris from Harvey, Rockport Texas, 55 days after the storm. The pile is 30 feet high, 300 feet wide and over a mile long.
Why is our mayor, Sylvester Turner, refusing offers for debris removal from Dallas and San Antonio?
Does he not realize the dangers of mold toxicity alone? Not to mention the chemicals and fecal matter!
As a resident of South Texas who lives and breathes their career and has absolutely no extra time to volunteer, how can I help? I am at a complete loss of what to do. Petitions and letters aren't accomplishing anything. And the same with phone calls.
I understand that there are all kinds of organizations, churches etc. that are donating items, starting fundraisers and helping with clean-up but it's not near enough. The disgusting mess in these pictures alone show that the debris is beyond human powered cleanup. And this is only one Street, in one town, 200 miles from Houston. There is quite literally trash, sewage, chemicals from Exxon and Shell plants, vehicles full of garbage, molded homes, sick children, homeless elderly and lost pets in that 200 mile drive.
If you live anywhere other than Texas, imagine what it would be like for your entire state to be inundated with enough water to almost fill up the Grand Canyon.
Please share. Send help. Do something. Do anything.
