Did you know you can make your own plant based milk at home?! People ask me all the time why I choose plant based milk over the bovine based alternative. I usually just say that it’s because I’m lactose intolerant in an effort to avoid a debate about which milk is better. However, I recently heard inaccurate claims about dairy-free products made by an overbearing vegan so I just wanted to remind everyone of some facts. Dairy-free is the way to be in my opinion. 100%. Studies suggest that casein (the main protein in milk) can promote tumor growth, milk contains an unnecessary amount of saturated fat, which can adversely impact health. Milk is saturated with antibiotics to protect consumers from all of the coagulated cow puss present in the milk, and most people are allergic to lactose (the main sugar in milk), etc. However, it IS TRUE that if you choose plant based milk and fail to ensure that you’re consuming an adequate amount of calcium and other nutrients present in cow milk, you may become deficient and promote the development of various maladies including osteoporosis.
Remember, like regular milk, plant based milk is also highly processed. That is why I choose to make my own
At the end of the day, everyone is different. Milk can benefit some people and not others. Nutrition is certainly not a one size fits all. If you choose to spread information please make sure it’s factual.
