Hijiki Seaweed-- scientifically known as Sargassum fusiforme, typically brown or dull green and will either come in twig-like dried form or in small buds that look like dry black tea.
Some Health Benefits of Hijiki: 🔸️Balances Hormones (rich in iodine, which plays a major role in the manipulation and balance of our hormones, as it directly interacts with the thyroid gland)
🔸️Improves Digestive Health (packed with dietary fiber)
🔸️Enhances Energy Levels and helps prevent anemia (iron content is precedently high for a vegetable, almost 5 times more than chicken liver, which in turn allows increased oxygenation and boost energy)
Improves Bone Health (hijiki contains 10 times the amount of calcium in milk)
🔸️Checks Cholestrol Levels (fiber eliminates excess cholesterol from the cardiovascular system and helps to balance glucose and insulin levels within the body)
🔸️Induces Sleep and relaxation (due to its high levels of Magnesium)
Just like fish & shellfish, Seaweeds easily absorb and store whatever is in the environment. This means that if the water where they grow is contaminated with substances such as arsenic, mercury, lead, cadmium, or other heavy metals, the seaweed will contain those substances as well. However, it would require a great deal of hijiki to accumulate enough heavy metals to be dangerous.
