Us pet lovers have a habit of seeing our four legged friends as little humans. Although this comes from a good place, it can often have many negative effects as it doesn't allow the cat or dog to be their natural selves!
One way that this can happen is when our pets are unwell. We've all heard of the benefits to humans of using aloe Vera and tea tree, especially when it comes to skin health.
But, did you know that both of these plants are considered to be toxic to our pets? Extreme care should be taken when using either of these on cats or dogs.
Aloe Vera poisoning can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Other clinical signs seen with aloe vera ingestion include depression, loss of appetite, changes in urine color, and rarely, tremors.
Tea Tree poisoning can cause muscle weakness,
Loss of coordination, very, drop in body temperature, drooling, skin rashes (which is often what Tea Tree is being used for!) and seizures (in severe cases). We are not saying that Aloe Vera and Tea Tree should never be used on our pets, but extreme care should be taken when using anything that has the potential to be toxic to our four legged friends!
