‘Know thyself’ - Socrates
“....You shall love your neighbour as yourself [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for others].’” - Matthew 22:39 AMP
Have you ever realised that the person you spend the most about of time with, literally 24/7 is yourself.
How many of us have been told negative things about ourselves? You are ugly, you are fat, you are lazy, you won’t amount to anything, you are a bad friend etc etc the list goes on.
Now how many of us continue to speak those same words over ourselves?
If the answer is yes? You’ve gone from being the victim to being the abuser.
You see when you align yourself with other people’s negative opinion, you are essentially agreeing with them. You begin to see yourself as irredeemable, unloveable, unable to change and well that is simply NOT TRUE. It’s a lie!!
NOTHING IS BEYOND REDEMPTION.
If you can learn to love yourself, you can learn to love others well. If you can know yourself, you can truly know others.
Anyone who speaks negatively over you is often much, much worse to themselves. Ponder that for a moment. How would you view these people differently?
If we could begin to see ourselves through the eyes of compassion, grace and kindness, I wonder if our perception of others would change as a knock on effect. Shall we give it a go?
When a child makes a mistake, you don’t call them a failure and tell them to give up at life do you? You say it’s ok, try again, you can do it!....Then why do you do it to yourself? We are all God’s children so our life is a continual learning curve! Mistakes are simply part of our growing journey.
How are you going to be loving, kind and compassionate to yourself today? You ready?
