Belated happy birthday to my one true love Hellraiser (31 yesterday) - I often ponder what it is about this trashy 80s wonder that speaks to me to the point of being a fan girl. There is the obvious that Clive Barker changed horror and special effects in one movie. Thats the obvious. I was so taken by the look the make up and the dreamlike storytelling. Id never seen anything like it. When i was little and maggie thatcher had ruined the country and it took years for my dad to find work and our family struggled ,he had a dodgy phase renting out pirate videos door to door and I would watch these horrors trying to process my personal and social hell as a wee nipster. I hold tjose monsters in my heart as we all know they’re angels after all. Maybe not hellraiser 457 where he went to space ...that’s a pile of...to quote #elviramistressofthedark Cack a doo doo

Here lies season in judging a book by its cover... "Her father died instantly, her mother in the hospital. She has learned to say this flatly and without emotion, the way she says her name (Marina), her doll's name (also Marina) and her age (seven). Her parents were killed in a car crash and now she lives in the orphanage with the other little girls. But Marina is not like the other little girls." Sounds good right? Nope. This fell totally flat for me, it was described as chilling and terrifying and I felt it was neither! I guess a plus is it was only 100 or so pages so I flew threw it but the whole time I was waiting for something to happen that...didn't. Hard pass from me!
