"Hasn't there been enough senseless killing? Let's have a murder that makes sense!"
Toby is upset that all of her friends are being killed by a slasher called "The Breather" that strikes whenever teenagers are having premarital sex! With a school full of kooky and goofy characters, anyone could be the killer! But Toby is -for illogical reasons- the main suspect! Oddball hilarity and tongue-in-cheek satire make this slasher spoof a must have for any horror fan that doesn't want to take themselves too seriously.
I get tired of seeing the same '80's stereotypes rehashed in horror comedies. But Student Bodies feels way more genuine than some of the eye-rolling endeavors by modern filmmakers... maybe that's because Student Bodies was actually made side by side with its source material. That's right, we have an '80's comedy... spoofing '80's horror movies.
And isn't it just delightful?
I laugh, and I laugh hard, whenever I throw Student Bodies on. The psychologists that insists that his patients call him "Daddy", the racist woodshop teacher with an obsession with horse-head shaped bookends, the dumb teens, the absurdist humor that would fit in with Naked Gun and/or Tim and Eric... Every single part of this flick is just the definition of a good time.
It is a bloodless movie, with no nudity to speak of, but that adds to it. The filmmakers went out of their way to get an R-rating by randomly cutting away from the story to an old man at a desk that says: "fuck you". How often do you see a movie that purposefully shoots itself in the foot for a gag?
Unfortunately, I don't see a lot of people on here bringing Student Bodies up. Sure it may not be as high brow as Scream or as insane as Dude Bro Party Massacre III... but this is literally the grandfather to both of those films... and I find it just as humorous!
So, if you haven't seen Student Bodies yet, get on it! Because I can quote this film back and forth and I want someone to join in!
Also, the ending is a real head fuck. I thought it was parodying Slaughter High, only to learn that it came out before that film!
If you've seen it... you know exactly what I mean.
