When you have a last minute office pot luck, you make last minute hummus. And yes, if you’re accessible to a bulk store, there is no excuse to let plastic invade. As I’ve posted before; most old school Indian grocery shops are bulked. We are very old school people, we like to stock up (I call it post-war mentality we picked up from our grandparents). We are lucky enough now to live without ration cards and long queues to the shops, if anything we have a good surplus.
Anyway last night I got me some sesame seeds to make tahini and a tonne of chickpeas for the main hummus. I have lemons and bulk bought salt at home, and picked up garlic as well. That was interesting: involved several rounds of “no plastic bag! Just give me the weigh sticker”.
Soaked the chickpeas overnight, blitzed out tahini this morning while pressure cooking the chickpeas, roasted the garlic and squeezed out the lemon juice. Tossed the lot into the blender with a bit of sesame oil (in a glass bottle) and out came yummy, plastic-free, Trash-free hummus!
