Lampard is expected to leave his role as Derby manager and take over at Chelsea with Maurizio Sarri set for Juventus.
The Blues legend has several tasks on his agenda at Stamford Bridge, one of which is the future of Callum Hudson-Odoi. Hudson-Odoi's contract runs out in a year's time, but Lampard joining would significantly boost Chelsea's chance of keeping the 18-year-old. Eden Hazard's now vacant number 10 shirt is waiting for the academy graduate should he pledge his future to the club. Hudson-Odoi was ready to leave Stamford Bridge and attempted to push through a move to Bayern Munich back in January.
The Blues held firm amid several bids from the German giants, but Sarri made things difficult with Hudson-Odoi's first team opportunities at a premium.
The teenager made his England debut before his club debut such was Sarri's reluctance to play Hudson-Odoi from the start.
Lampard though has already shown a willingness to offer youngsters a chance having seen Mason Mount, who was on loan from Chelsea, flourish at Pride Park recently.
He is expected to offer Hudson-Odoi the chance to play centrally as well as out wide as he makes him and Christian Pulisic focal points of the Chelsea attack.
Lampard's assistant Jody Morris, who would likely follow him to west London, worked with Hudson-Odoi when he was involved in the Blues academy.
All of which means the 18-year-old's path towards becoming a Chelsea regular looks far clearer than it did under Sarri. (Why Hudson-Odoi has not sign the contract was because he wanted to see who the new manager was and whether he will be guaranteed playing time/starting XI. By knowing that lampard would likely to take charge, he would sign the contract 😉)
