8.5/10 - ‘Iberico pork jianbing’
Tott Court / Leicester Square
Jianbing, a true first for me. Just like riding a or having your first ... moment, it required a bit of research beforehand. No pun intended. Not so much so that the surprise would be ruined, I just needed a smidge of knowledge for context, reassurance that all would be OK.
: Crepe. The lovely lady making my jianbing got distracted by the sourcing of fresh herbs so I felt my crepe was slightly overdone. I’m not sure if that was the desired effect as it crumbled somewhat during consumption.
: I feel I need to detail this in chronological order, so intricate was its construction. An was spread over the cooking crepe, followed by a drizzle of spring onions, soy paste & oil. It was then flipped, a bundle of herbs were added with bits of Iberico atop. Folded in half, crunchy wonton skin added for texture, finished off with more folding, into a -esque shape.
: Really quite delicious. As a whole my concern would be the amount of, or lack thereof, ingredients. It was rather light and for £8 I’d expect more - rent for the tiny cubby hole from which you’re served can’t be THAT much. But woah, what flavours & textures. Sweet, spicy, herby, savoury, crunchy. What a list.
As first times go, this is up there with receiving your first pay check , diving and not belly-flopping, drinking yourself to oblivion and NOT being 🤮. I have no idea how these should taste but if Pleasant Lady’s anything to go by, where can I find more?!
