From the Leica mädchen, the provocative portrait of Sophia Loren ( by David Seymour, 1955) to the damsel in an Australian beachguard's arms, the male portrayal of women may be perceived as that of a weak, dependent role. In contrast, a female centric portrayal of women displays different characteristics (images 4 -9, selfie by Annapurna Datta 1920, collodion prints (8,9) of Greta Thunberg at Standing Rock Indian reservation " Standing for us all " by Shane Balkowitsch) . Image 10 shows British minister Mark Field manhandling a woman protestor at London's mansion house. The themes of gender and its fluidity are often explored by undergraduate photography students.
