Guy started working with me back in May with minimal knowledge on how to structure his eating and training or why things weren't working for him within his goals of fat loss and rejuvenating his energy levels. We've implemented more calories in a controlled manner and opened his eyes to the methods of flexible dieting whilst also being in at least three solid resistance training session per week.
▪️
He's still very much on his journey to achieve what he wants but as you can see from his stats and physical changes in the images he's absolutely smashing it with a drop in bodyweight of 5.4kg, a BF% drop of 4.6% and a daily average calorie intake of increase +500cal from where he started.

Consistency has been his best friend. Has he been perfect? Nope. Has he done all of this in a manageable and sustainable manner while working with his lifestyle instead of against it? Absolutely!

So I want to talk a little bit about body shaming/loving your body and health... I 100% think that everyone should love themselves and others for how they appear no matter what shape or size. BUT there is a difference in self love and being healthy. If you are overweight that is okay, LOVE yourself, but ALSO use that love you have for yourself as motivation to create a healthy lifestyle! For example, the higher body fat% you are, the higher risk of heart problems and other health concerns. It’s also okay to be tiny and skinny if you are doing it in a healthy way! And trust me, I’ve done it the unhealthy way - I’ve starved myself, I’ve binged, I still struggle with bulimia but I am ALWAYS working on myself and trying to find ways that help me become more comfortable with food to make sure I’m eating enough. I hope I do not offend anyone or give the wrong idea. I want to inspire and help people so all I am trying to put out there is that it is important to love yourself and body shaming is not okay, but it is also important to be healthy - to be able to do every day tasks, to feel good physically and emotionally, to live a longer life!

The 4 day split in my opinion, is one of the best splits out there. You can get 4 solid workouts in a week, while still getting 3 full days of rest, which makes it a very sustainable split to fit into your life.

I don't do a 4-day split at the moment, but when I did, this was basically how I had it set up. These 4 workouts are tough, but a lot of fun as well. They'll get the job done with helping you pack on some muscle, and you'll be able to get plenty of rest as well. The 4 day split is broken up into 2 upper body days as well as 2 lower body days, with a strength day and a hypertrophy day for each.

Once upon a time I tried a gut cleanse. I was all geared up to start feeling better but then I didn’t. I felt super sick, so I quit. Yes, it probably would have gotten better but I just didn’t love all the restriction and feeling like I had to avoid going out.⁣

I really want to make some better eating habits, that will last long-term. So, what now? Try counting macros again? This was really overwhelming to me for the short period I tried it. But I know a lot of people get into a good groove with it. ⁣

🤭🐄 Beef bake/cake🐄🤭

•High protein/low carb/higher fat•
- Lean ground beef/turkey/chicken (I sauted mine with yellow onion)
-No salt added tomato sauce -green onions
-cauliflower rice
-sour cream/Greek yogurt
-cottage cheese (I used non fat)
-chedda cheese (or whatever you perfer)

Mix sour cream, cottage cheese, & green onions together. Lay in the bottom of a baking pan. Brown your choice of ground meat. Once that's finished add your tomato sauce. Lay on top of cauliflower rice. Layer cheese, meat, cheese (or don't) (I've got a big family, so we layer that STUFF) 🤪 🥗 Eating healthier, doesn't always have to be salads. This particular meal is higher in calories/fat BECAUSE I used ground beef. 🙋I personally like to add my dinner into my fitness pal before I eat anything through out the day because I like a bigger dinner, That way I know what I can have through out my day and still eat how I like for dinner. 🐿️

Bloating is the trapping of gas in the abdomen that causes distention of the belly and discomfort. This can be caused by food intolerances, some artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, IBS, and other factors. Fiber is a very important substance for your health but can lead to gas due to your body's inability to break it down. Make sure to have at least 25 g per day, but don't eat too much. Exceeding 80 g of fiber per day would probably cause some bloating as well as digestive and nutrient absorption problems⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

One of the questions I get a lot is how to eat out in Keto. It’s actually really easy! Tonight we had Mexican. I typically get some form of fajitas, and these were on point.

Other options when eating out? Burgers no bun (I’ll add bacon, egg, avocado, etc), salmon (make sure you can any sauce on the side), steak (you can get it with sautéed mushrooms even), salads, Philly cheesesteak no bun, and I could go on. I haven’t been to a restaurant yet where there hasn’t been something on the menu that was Keto friendly.

Does anyone ever have their company order lunch and it’s usually pizza or sandwiches, etc. and you feel like you can’t partake? I’ll just eat the sandwich minus the bread or scrape the toppings off the pizza and eat it that way. Sometimes it just takes thinking outside the box a little 💁🏽‍♀️.

After I have made many mistakes in my life and after I have seen the same mistakes of my clients I finally realized that things don't have to be so complicated.

There are just a few quick things that healthy and lean people do, what I never could understand but after years of practice finally realized. ⚽️ Protein and vegetables with every meal, instead of a full load of carbs. It keeps you fuller for longer, makes your muscles grow and your body healthy
🏀 Strength training 2-3x a week to build more lean muscle mass, so I can eat every now and then a bit of the sweet stuff without gaining fat.
🏈Don't drink the calories e.g. smoothies, shakes, fruit juice, alcohol on a daily basis. Because for me drinking is not as satisfying than eating
⚾️ Being patient and knowing there is no quick fix. No magic pill. Only time. Good habits will build if I just let them

A calorie deficit, plain and simple, is the single non-negotiable component of losing weight.

Simply put, our bodies have an amount of energy (calories) they need to take in regularly in order to maintain their weight, otherwise known as their "maintenance" intake.

By regularly consuming MORE than that amount, you'll gain weight. By regularly consuming LESS than that amount, you'll lose it.

Personally, I prefer not to rely on objective calculators to establish a person's maintenance intake. Rather, I advise—and also do this myself—that a person consistently tracks the calories they naturally consume on a daily basis over the course of 3-5 days...

Whatever the average intake of those days is, I'll consider to be approximately that person's maintenance, and set them in a 100-300 calorie deficit from that amoun to start off, assuming the goal is weight loss.

If you're not in a rush to lose weight (which you shouldn't be if you want sustainable results), you're always better off starting in a smaller deficit, and lowering your intake slightly only at plateaus (the more you can eat and still lose weight, the better).

Consume a high protein intake within those calories you take in, and aim to only reduce your calories from carbs and/or fats (to lose more fat than muscle).

Seriously this is my life story.

I’m constantly failing every day in my journey to fitness and better health. But this is my journey, my story, I will try my hardest everyday.

I want to tell you my story...
.
For those that know me personally I don’t do things half ass. I’ve been working with @justinmurphynutrition and I’ve been learning a lot. I used to work at a paleo food company and thought I knew all about nutrition. But it’s so much more than that. It’s about accountability, support, mentoring, teaching and some one telling me straight even when I didn’t want to hear it. As far as my meals I did great, meal prep and good choices. So guess what my issue was....snacking and depending on protein shakes and bars.
.
So quick history over the past few months. I was literally living off of protein shakes and bars. Then one day I was in tremendous pain in my lower back and lower stomach. I went to the doctor and found out I was having kidney issues. The protein drinks I lived off of for a majority of my protein in take was making it difficult for my kidneys to process.
.
As soon as I found out I stopped drinking them. 2 days later the pain stopped. I was thinking...how can the liquid protein cause this? It’s good for you right? Just remember anything in excess is not good for you.
.
The weight loss surgery and I have a love and hate relationship. It’s helped me get to where I am but eating has been so hard. I can’t drink a lot and eating some times takes me like an hour to eat everything to get my nutrition in. Some days I can’t hardly eat without feeling like I wanted to throw up. What’s done is done but sometimes I wonder where I would have been if I would met with @justinmurphynutrition before I had the surgery.

Solution: @justinmurphynutrition and I decided to focus on real food over the next few weeks. No processed food just real food.

He has drawn a line in the sand and not looked back over the last 4 weeks. He started at 137kg and is now down beyond 133. He has also lost a whopping 5cm from his waist measurement and is in need of new shirts.

Sharing this little piece of mathematical faith. So disclaimer: life doesnt always work out this perfectly, but I checked the math and caught a beautiful moment of #caloriedeficit proof.

So from Wednesday to Thursday I lost .2lbs
.
1lb of fat = 3500 cal
.
My .2lb x 3500 cal/lb = 700 cal
.
I ate 1500 calories on Wednesday
.
So theoretically the rest of my calories burned had to be pulled from what's stored in my body meaning that mathematically on Wednesday I burned about 2200 cal
.
Which.is.exactly.what.happened this was a much needed proof of theory especially 2 days after my hormones messed with my water retention, have faith in your body it's trying its hardest

I had my first workout at my gym this week and it was a little bit of a fail.
I did my usual 10 min warm-up fast walk on the treadmill and continued on to the stairmaster for only 10 minutes 😩 In my defense, my headphones died a few minutes into my time on the stairmaster and it was *quite* difficult to even get to 10. But I beat my personal record of 30 flights in 10 minutes from last time by 2 WHOLE FLIGHTS 😅
Also I featured this song in my stories because before my headphones decided to suck, I found that this song has a perfect beat for working out!

Selfie from yesterday because I've done absolutely nothing today. Nothing includes not changing out of my pj's and not brushing my hair.

I'm down another 1.5 pounds today, which is great. And surprising since I've not been 100% strict keto. I've even eaten bread and potatoes! I'm gonna continue on with eating the way I've been eating just to see how things go. I think the reason that I'm still losing even though I've been having carbs is because my portions have been the right size.

I remember it like it was yesterday

I remember looking in the mirror as a chubby kid, or as the waist of my pants would remind me, “husky”. I wondered if I would ever have an ab *singular* or something that resembled a bicep. I would spend hours in my room doing crunches, push-ups, and pull-ups. Soon after I got my first gym membership. My parents would drop me off and pick me up everyday until I got my license...To this day I can’t thank them enough for that. I was just a kid chasing a dream, with no real reason other than I felt this internal desire to achieve it.

Well, as it turns out having no abs or 8 of them really doesn’t matter a whole lot. Walking around with spider webs for veins won’t make you a better friend, a more compassionate lover, or an empathetic human being. However, what it takes to achieve that physique, well that’s priceless. The time I have spent in the gym bears a physical mark, sure, but what goes unseen by most is much more powerful, and personally what I am most proud of.

Weather you’re just starting out, or you’re an experienced fitness guru, remember why you started. Remember that the times it hurts the most will result in the largest impact; mentally, physically, and emotionally. Remember that when the going gets tough you just keep on going because the euphoria of success is just around the corner.

It’s the journey, and it’s one that is far from over. Happy Friday everyone.🤘🏽
