Living water - Day 2 of #folktaleweek2018 is Magic.
Once upon a time was a widow who had only a son. One day she got sick and was close to death. The son was desperate to find any medicine that could help her. The old, wise woman from his village advised him to find Living water that could cure all sickness. Far, far a way was a mountain, on its pick grew Talking Tree. Among its roots springed the fountain of Living Water. But the way to find them was long and dangerous. If someone missed the proper path evil powers changed him into stone.
The son however wasn't afraid. He found the mountain went to the top, ignored temptations and misleading and he found the fountain. Talking Tree advised him to take its branch and split the Living Water on every stone near the path. All of them was once people.
The son did as he told and great crowd of people went with him. When he came back home he used the Living Water and cured his mother.
This Polish folktale concerns Ślęża, the highest pick of Sudety Mountains in west-south part of Poland. In prehistory there was center of pagan cults, first Celtic than Slavic. Near Ślęża are situated stone figures both humans and animals. I guess they are the source of this tale.
On my picture you could see Bear and Monk, the real stone figures from Ślęża.
