Happy 72nd Independence Day to a country full of culture, traditions, languages, pride, beauty, an abundance of knowledge, wealth and so much respect. Blessed to call it my own and grateful for the roots it has given me. I asked this question about culture in my stories a few days ago without realizing it was days prior to Independence Day (in my highlights now). It was unintentional. But it brought about some wonderful, timely discussions with so many of you. Because of this country I am who I am. And I am inspired to do what I do. And at the very least, I am responsible to keep the torch that was passed to me alive. A torch that was fought for, blood was shed for, lives were lost for and freedom was attained for. A torch that was protected for 200 years (when India was under British rule). A torch which consisted of language, culture, traditions, values, customs, heritage and so much more. We are Independent. We have been for 72 years and yet some day I feel the torch is still not safe. It still needs to be protected. It is still very fragile. But we don't need to fight anyone, or lose lives or make any major sacrifices. Let's share, talk, expose and learn about our history, our roots, our culture loud and proud so our children hear it every day and they will have the warmth, glory and shine of the same torch that was so carefully given to us.
After singing the National Anthem of India this morning, we dissected the lyrics and talked about the various regions mentioned in the anthem. India is blessed with the beauty of the people, the rich land, one of the tallest mountains and the most revered (holy) waters.
