Join us for another fun session, as we discover and experience this new craft Japanese gin created by Suntory. The gin was first launched in Japan earlier this year, and has now made it into Australia.
A little fact that is not widely known, is that Suntory has been making gin for a long time. Their first gin called Hermes, was released in 1949. Roku gin was created by Mr Kazuyuki Torii (Suntory's Senior Specialist for Gin & Spirits). He did not want to make a new gin, but he wanted to add some Japanese touches to the classic styles of gin that are already widely enjoyed. So after lots of R&D and thought process, Mr. Torii finally decided on 6 unique Japanese botanicals to add to a classic style base, and the final product is this craft gin, ROKU (meaning 6 in Japanese, hence the name). Kelvin was fortunate enough to be invited to check out Liquor Atelier (the distillery where Roku Gin is made) and managed to spend some time with Mr. Torii, earlier this year. And he can guarantee you that making this gin was not that easy, especially dealing with lots of seasonal botanicals.
So join us and learn more about what was involved in creating this unique Japanese craft gin. See how you can use this gin in cocktails and other mixed drinks, and see how we have paired the cocktails with some food too. We have gotten Mr. Ryo Kitahara (Assiette de Parti) to create 2 unique canapes to match our 2 Roku Gin cocktails.
