I was quite bummed that I missed out on my #CoffeeBeerSunday yesterday, but that's why they make #PeruvianMorning and crappy Mondays, right? So you can make up for your bad decisions over the weekend...?? Anyway, as you may have guessed, I threw down on a deliciously sexy frittata to go with my deliciously "caffeinated" beverage from the barrel masters @CWBrewing.
The beer itself smells of intense roasted coffee, sweet bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel, rich dark chocolate, charred brown sugar, toffee, dark fruit, with just a touch of earthy, herbal, grassy pine. The taste follows with equal intensity and richness along with definite alcohol presence - even at under 9%. Feels medium- to light-bodied, somewhat creamy with moderate carbonation and a peppery finish dominated by barrel flavors. Overall, a nice bourbon barrel aged coffee stout that I think will greatly improve with a little cellar time.
As for the frittata, I'm not sure I could've picked a better combo of ropa vieja and frijoles negros a la charra to fill it with. Topped with pickled red onions, avocado, radish, chipotlé crema, smoked habañero salsa, queso fresco, and cilantro, I barely took a breath before it was already gone. It's a good thing I have the day off cuz now I don't wanna move. Prost!!
