🧡Dramatic, Original, Vivid Orange Glass Shades with Golden Sconce Frames by Markel, c. 1930. 🧡
I love the rich color of the shades, especially against the antique yellow-gold finish on the wall sconce. This combination is like a blast of warm sunshine. It makes you smile. This is not your dark, foreboding antique fixture that reminds you of cobwebs and dusty, drab ancestors... Very appropriate for Art Deco, Spanish Revival, Mission, Victorian Architecture as well as to soften a Minimalist Loft, or Brick Factory space. While these sconces are intended to be hard wired into an electric box, the on/off switches on the sconce base have been replaced and can be used at your convenience.
Extra Info: While the headquarters of Markel Electric Products were located in Buffalo, New York, the company also manufactured in Canada and Australia. (Australia was quite the trendsetter, a forerunner in the Deco Movement.) I believe that these iconic chevron shaped, rich, opaque orange slip shades were manufactured in Australia. They are rarely seen in the United State, but are definitely authentic period Markel slip shades.
