@invisionapp had questions posted around the room last night to encourage conversation, one of which was, "how do you think we can narrow the gender gap in design leadership?"
A key to narrowing that gap definitely has to do with an environment that allows women to keep working without any pauses in their career - so they don't have any less experience than their male counterparts. And in my experience, paid family leave, flexible work hours and remote work options are key to not having to go part-time and/or stop working entirely while our kids are young. That applies to both men and women - if our partners have flexible schedules and hours and can work at home sometimes, it lessens the burden on women to be the one who deals with sick kid days, childcare falling through, doctor's appointments and all the rest that comes with raising tiny humans.
These are the things that have allowed me to keep working through having a kid and enduring a couple military moves to places with very limited job opportunities. I would have otherwise had to stop working or dial it back during the years when I should be growing in a career I love - which almost certainly would put me behind my male peers and limit my future leadership opportunities.
