The demolition of a bungalow gives way for the beautiful warm and contemporary Pavilion House in Dalkey, County Dublin; designed by the brilliantly talented @robert.bourke.architects #robertbourkearchitects
.
#houseoftheday_ie
.
The following excerpt is taken from the architect's website from where you can find more of their beautiful work http://www.rba.ie/the-kerries/
.
A new house for a couple replaces a bungalow which existed on the same site. The new dwelling utilises a large pitched roof profile with terracotta tiles, echoing the original and adjacent houses. The triangular site led to the decision to add additional space to the front of the house. This is achieved by adding a smaller, pitched roof structure, or pavilion, which houses a guest bedroom. All rooms enjoy a different view of the gardens, which will be landscaped in various ways to include an orchard, kitchen garden, lawn, patios, dry garden and wild garden.
.
Subtle level changes within the house and gardens follow the contours of the sloping site. Exposed, board-marked concrete is used for the retaining walls of the gardens and the chimney breasts, which are structural elements that support the main roof. A mezzanine living room has a large window overlooking Dublin Bay and views over the ground floor living spaces. The exposed Douglas Fir rafters of both roofs are lit by large roof lights, creating warm and atmospheric spaces.

A contemporary style new build constructed in rural Co. Wexford, designed by the brilliantly talented @odla_architects #odla_architects
.
The following excerpt is taken from the architect's website from where you can find more of their amazing work https://odla.ie
.
The design concept was to create a modern interpretation of the classic Irish farmhouse, which at a glance looks very much at home in this rich agricultural landscape. Up close, the restraint of the traditional proportions gives way to intricate contemporary detailing of the open plan living space annex, which features large expanses of shaded glazing and treated larch timber cladding.

A Beautiful Bungalow Renovation on the West Coast of Ireland; designed by the talented Patrick Dunne Architects in collaboration with Fiona Brugha Architect
.
This typical Irish bungalow on the Dingle Peninsula was remodeled to enhance views over the seascape and the surrounding mountains. The house now engages with it's surroundings with the living areas, indoor and outdoor, enjoying sunlight and landscape. The level changes and volumes inside make playful arrangements of spaces.

Rug - I had this photo planned since the day I read the House and Home December Challenge... And this is not the rug I wanted to show! I ordered a rug in the Zara black Friday sale and it still hasn't arrived. So you will just have to look at this @ikeaie rug I got for Hugh's bedroom. It's a great size and I love the texture of it. .

iPhoneography | iPhone X | Snapseed | Love this dramatic edit of my photo from October, the beautiful cottages and houses along the cliff top above Bínn Bán outside of Dingle. The sky was magical. I love Ireland and especially this part of West Kerry. This would make a good painting. #iphoneography #iloveireland #westkerry #binnban #irishskies #dingle #irishhouses #clifftops #closetoheaven #lovethatpalette

.
The project developed as a series of interlinking boxes in plan and elevation, that can be opened up or closed off depending on how the internal spaces are to be used. The solid mass of the building form is broken up with decorative laser cut metal screens, and aluminium window frame extrusions, and the spaces are collectively organised around a central courtyard. This allows light into the main body of the house, and also gives a more private sun room to the rear.

Thursday’s #houseoftheday_ie
.
Beautiful Glazed Extension to Restored Victorian Home in Northern Ireland designed by the brilliantly talented @des_ewing_architects #desewingarchitects
.
The following excerpt is taken from the architect's website from where you can find more of their amazing work http://www.desewing.com/property/restored_victorian_house_glazed_extension
.
Externally, this design combines traditional materials, such as timber windows and two-tone brickwork, with contemporary elements such as the silicone-jointed glazing in the new rear extension, and a buff render finish. This adds a crisp modern edge that blends comfortably with the surroundings.
.
Internally, the objective was open plan family living. The extensive glazing enables the spaces to be flooded with natural light, while, at the same time, ensuring a connection to the mature gardens.
The new extension and renovation of the existing dwelling brings period living up to modern day requirements.

The stunning contemporary style extension of a 19th century Manor House in rural Co. Wexford, designed by the brilliantly talented @odla_architects #odla_architects
.
The following excerpt is taken from the architect's website from where you can find more of their amazing work https://odla.ie
.
The original house was built in 1856 for McDonald (or McDonnell) family on slightly elevated, landscaped grounds overlooking the River Slaney estuary.
The development involved the demolition of part of the late 20th century extensions which were of no historical merit and replacement with a more appropriate and aesthetically pleasing extension on the north east side of the house retaining the existing two-storey scale of the building and ensuring that the existing ridge height and slope of the roof were maintained. It is in keeping with the architectural style of the building and appropriate in terms of materiality as well as the quality of detailing. .

.
Pollamore House; the stunning contemporary rural new build situated on the outskirts of Cavan Town and designed by the very talented @craftstudio_architecture #craftstudio_architecture
.
The following excerpt is taken from the architect’s website from where you can find more of their amazing work https://craftstudio.ie/work/pollamore-house-cavan/
.
The undulating site, on the periphery of Cavan Town, juxtaposes the urban fabric to the west and the rural landscape to the east. This design has evolved through experimenting with mass, sculpting and breaking down form to integrate the dwelling into its context.
.
The dwelling is informed by its habitat. Its form derives from the geology of the landscape. A small quarry, excavated over the generations by our client’s ancestors, provides a protected south facing outdoor space, around which the key spaces of the building are orientated. The natural form of the quarry protects the space from adjacent properties to the west, while the mass of the dwelling is positioned to the east to shelter the courtyard from the elements and exposure to the nearby road infrastructure.
